With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season it’s so easy to push your own needs aside. At my house “Operation Christmas 2017” is in full effect. I have boxes to unpack, gifts to wrap, cookies to bake, holiday parties to attend and a holiday party to host. My to-do list continues to grow and my calendar continues to fill up.
If you’re like me and you’re busily planning for the holiday be sure to put yourself on your list.
The holidays can be an exciting time but studies indicate that it’s a stressful time of year as well. Especially for women who often are the ones responsible for doing most of the holiday preparations. Although we tend to focus more on others this time of year it doesn’t mean that it’s OK to neglect our own needs.
So, to keep this holiday season merry and bright be sure to give yourself the gift of self-care.
Here are ten inexpensive self-care ideas to help stave off holiday stress:
Breathe- Taking several slow, deep breaths throughout the day can help your mind and body relax.
Listen to inspirational music to calm and soothe your nerves.
Prioritize your time and learn to say no to the things that aren’t on the top of your list.
Gratitude Reflection – reflecting on the people, places and things that you’re grateful for can help to put things in perspective and boost your mood.
Ask for help- Don’t try to go it alone. Delegate tasks as needed or ask for support.
Get cozy with a hot drink and a good book or movie.
Walk outdoors to boost your mood and reduce stress.
Have a good laugh to reduce stress and enjoy an overall sense of well-being.
Try a new workout– Spice up your self-care routine by trying a new workout. ( ice skating, hot yoga, spin class or zumba).
Fill up on the essentials (nutrition, sleep and water).
